The return leg climbs steeply through the woodland and follows the outer edge of the golf course and the best views over Tobermory before descending through the town’s winding back lanes

  • Look out for:
    • Otters around the lighthouse
    • Woodland flowers
    • Memorial with map of mainland peaks
  • Route description:

From Ledaig carpark (on the right as you descend the hill into Tobermory) walk along the colourful main street to reach the RNLI shop. Take the track on the left and head uphill through the woods. Continue on the relatively level track passed the back of Tobermory Oysters and on to the Memorial, where a viewpoint guide identifies the mainland peaks, islands and settlements that can be seen in the landscape. Continue to the Rubha nan Gall `lighthouse. Look out for otters amongst the seaweed and rocks around the lighthouse.

Either return the same way or, before returning to the memorial, take the steep path through the woods up the cliff side to reach the greens of the golf course. Turn left and follow green and white markers along the undulating route around the edge of the golf course. Exit the course, below a large house, through a metal gate and follow the path over the stream and continue until you reach a small lane.

Follow the back lanes downhill to return to Tobermory’s harbour.
