Burry Holms Walk Summary:
The free-range circular walk around the coast of Burry Holms offers some great views of the full sandy length of Rhossili Beach to Worm’s Head to the south, and far-reaching views across Carmarthen Bay as far as Caldey Island and Tenby to the west and Whiteford Lighthouse and Burry Port to the north west. Although just off the Wales Coast Path, there is a wild feel on the island which is coloured by sea campion and thrift in the summer.
Route description:
The get to Burry Holms Island see the Burry Holms Walk – link. To walk around Burry Holms Island, leave the Wales Coast Path at Spaniard Rocks and take the easy scramble down the rocks to the beach. Cross the beach for about 150m and scramble onto the island’s eastern flank (alternatively there is an easier path along the sand to the southeast of the island). There is a faint path that follows the coast line around the island, or if overgrown it is easy to find a free-range route (avoiding the multiple rabbit holes). The ruins of 14th century St Cenydd chapel and a schoolroom can be seen at island’s eastern end.
