About Isle of Sheppey
Full of surprises, secret wild places and strong community spirit there is plenty to do on this island for a weekend or more. The southern half is a medley of marshland comprised of two other islands, Elmley Islandand the Isle of Harty, which make up a vast nature reserve. The north is a mix of industrial landscape, long beaches, a sprawling commercial port and holiday camps. It is loved by traditional holidaymakers and birdwatchers alike and offers plenty of adventure, escape and quirky things to do. The high point of the island, The Mount, measures seventy-six metres. The island is criss-crossed by a network of footpaths and quiet cycle routes that pass the places that made aviation history as well as nostalgic music halls and heritage centres and places linked to the life of Lord Nelson. Access is via Kingsferry Bridge from the north coast of Kent.

How to get to the Isle of Sheppey
The Isle of Sheppey bridge is the only route onto the island. By car simply drive to the northern end of the A249. It is also possible to arrive in Sheppey by train, with rail stations at Queenborough and Sheerness.
Staying on the Isle of Sheppey
Isle of Sheppey hotels are numerous , along with B&B’s. For nature-lovers a real treat is to stay in the cabins or farmhouse of the Elmley Nature Reserve. Our favourite campsite in Sheppey is the super-friendly and slightly quirky Leo Bay, close to Queenborough.
Best time to go to the Isle of Sheppey
There is plenty to do in the Isle of Sheppey any time of the year. The beaches are best during the summer months, but some can get quite busy. January to early Spring is a special time at the Isle of Sheppey Nature Reserve at Elmley with an abundance of wildlife overwintering on the reserve.
