Llangorse Lake Paddle board route
Soak up fabulous mountain views from the largest natural lake in South Wales, and the only one featuring an ancient crannog. Sculpted by glaciers and filled with meltwater, the lake sits between Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and the Black Mountains. From the water there are uninterrupted views over green hills, meadows, and hedgerows to the high peaks of Pen y Fan and Corn Du.
The crannog, just offshore from the slipway, is an ancient artificial island settlement. The one at LLangorse is well over a thousand years old, and may have once been a royal palace. The Welsh Crannog Centre, a traditionally built roundhouse that sits on stilts on the lakeside, provides an insight into the history, myths and legends of the site.
Llangorse is an important habitat for birds, with large flocks of Canada geese and other migrants congregating here at different times of the year. Pike, perch, roach, bream, tench, and eels swim among the pondweed and yellow water-lilies, and you may even catch sight of an otter or water vole in the reeds that fringe the lake. Launch your own craft from the boat-hire centre or the sailing club (both located on Llangorse Common on the northwest shore), or hire a SUP, canoe, or kayak

Getting there From Brecon, head E on A40 (signed Abergavenny) then L on minor road signed Llangors/riding & adventure farm. Turn R just before village following brown signs to Llyn/Lake.
Special points Permanent and seasonal exclusion zones in operation to protect wildlife as well as other privately owned lake banks; https://llangorselake.co.uk/0391-LlangorseLeaflet5Dec2007.pdf Be mindful of other water users especially water-ski boats on lake. No landing on crannog. Lake can be exposed on windy days. Please clean board before you enter lake to prevent spread of non-native plant and animal species.
