About Kerrera

Sheltering the bustling harbour of Oban, just a few hundred metres over the water, Kerrera is a hilly island with a terraced coastline. The effects of changing sea levels are evident in the ancient cliff line above dry raised beaches, which makes a perfect walking platform. The land is farmed, tourism is a principal source of income, and there is a busy marina in the north. Yet the island remains peaceful and unspoilt with romantic castle ruins and a single but exceptional tearoom in the south.

The best thing to do in Kerrera is walk and there are two great options. The first Kerrera walk is the classic circuit to visit the romantic ruins of Gylen Castle and the Kerrera Tea Garden. The second Kerrera walk is the full coastal circuit of the island, including the castle, tearooms and Hutcheson monument – check the Islandeering tab.

How to get to Kerrera

From Oban take the Gallanach ferry, just south of Oban; there is also a ferry (booking needed0 offering a service to the marina at the north end of Kerrera that leaves from the North Pier in Oban.
