Islands of Small Isles

Small Isles Guide

The Small Isles—Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna—sit south of Skye and form one of the most distinctive and characterful island groups in the Inner Hebrides. Each island has its own personality: volcanic peaks, basalt cliffs, sandy bays, rich wildlife, strong cultural identity and some of Scotland’s best low-impact adventures.

This guide introduces the four main islands, with highlights for walking, paddling, wild swimming, wildlife and island culture.

Rum

The largest and wildest of the Small Isles, Rum is dominated by the jagged Rum Cuillin and deep glens that sweep down to the sea. It feels remote and elemental, with superb wildlife including red deer, sea eagles and Manx shearwater colonies.

Highlights
