About North East Wales

North East Wales includes the counties of Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham, and offers some great outdoor adventure. Central to its appeal, the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB stretches from the coastal hillsides near Prestatyn in the north to the remote Berwyn Mountains and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal, a World Heritage Site, in the south. It is a perfect area for beautiful landscapes with some of the best views along this section of the  Offa’s Dyke National Trail. For hikers there is also the 13-mile challenge of The North Berwyn Way.  Equally, there are plenty of exciting places to paddle board in North East Wales.

Best places to paddleboard in North East Wales

North East Wales is a great location for some exciting family paddles. Inland lakes include Llyn Brenig, set amidst wild moorland with a good chance of spotting a pair of ospreys. This region is also home to a stretch of the World Heritage Site-designated Llangollen Canal with options to paddleboard across the Pontcysyllte & Chirk Aqueducts. For something completely different Park in the Past in Wrexham, offers a peaceful re-wilded lake with full-scale recreation of a Roman fort and Celtic village. There are few rivers in North Wales that are suited to general paddleboarding, one that stands out though is the River Dee along the English-Welsh border.
