About Gower
On the southern coast of Wales, Gower Peninsula is a magnet for outdoor adventure lovers and holidaymakers. Renowned as the United Kingdom’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Gower captivates visitors with its pristine beaches, rugged cliffs, and lush countryside. The outdoor highlights of this enchanting region, just a stone’s throw away from the bustling city of Swansea, are the vast golden sands of Rhossili Bay, diving into the Blue Pool, Pwyll Du and other hidden coves and bracing coastal walks. One of the best ways to find the hidden gems of Gower Peninsula is to hop onto a paddleboard, or to explore one of Gowers wild islands.

Best Welsh Islands near Swansea
There are a number of tidal islands off Gower, all remnants of old headlands, that offer great walking and scrambling adventures. Just south of Swansea, at the south west tip of Swansea Bay, there are two islands that can be reached on low tides. The first, Middle Head, can we reached on every low tide. The furthermost, Mumbles Head with its prominent lighhouse, can only be reached on foot on very low Spring tides, otherwise can be waded to/swam on low tide. The other Gower islands are found at the northern and southern tip of Rhossili Bay. To the north there is a fabulous walk from Llangennith to Burry Holms, where the island can be accessed at low tide. To the south Worm’s Head offers a stunning walk and scramble to reach the spiraling Outer Head for those who dare.
